Also present at the convention were some of the people working the the Bellflower fan film which is something worth checking out. Also, I ran into Brian who's running the Browncoat cruise. More guests have been added to the list and there are a few new spots just opened up for anyone who wants to go!

The parties were very entertaining.  On Saturday evening, there were two parties being held at the El Scorpion and the La Cantina bars.   At the La Cantina, Mar, Adam, Jewel, Morena, Nectar all were present.  J. August Richards (Charles Gunn on Angel) showed up as well and chatted with fans.  In Hollywood, you never know who’s going to be in the neighborhood, and there was a surprise visit by a noticeably intoxicated Andy Dick, who got the boot from the bar after getting a little too rowdy. The party went on for several hours and most of the stars stayed and chatted for most of it. The party at El Scorpion went well into the night with Jonathan Woodward and the other actors stopping in to keep everyone entertained.

Thanks to daylight savings time, everyone gained an extra hour of sleep which was really well appreciated for those who partied all night. On Sunday, the Jonathan Woodward and Nectar Rose panel was very funny and entertaining.  Jonathan has appeared in many Starfury conventions and is always a fan favorite. Both played a bit of guitar and sang as well!   They asked trivia questions and gave away prizes ranging from books to a salad spinner. It was very difficult to stump the firefly fans though, and most of the questions asked were answered instantly by the very knowledgable audience.

Also on Sunday, during the Morena/Jewel/Christina panel, Nathan Fillian made a surprise visit, crashing the panel.  He had been in the neighborhood and decided to stop by.  During the panel while people were asking questions, Nathan standing in the back yelled out that he had a question, and asked the panel what it would be like to make out with Nathan Fillian! Nathan sat in on the panel to the delight of the fans.

Sunday evening, the Element was transformed back into into a club with lights, music, dancing, and partying! It was a really nice way to end a most enjoyable weekend.

In the end, Sean Harry and everyone in Starfury showed us what really makes a great con. Because they make it so enjoyable for the fans and actors, It's no surprise that they are able to get the best stars to come out. And this is just their first time out here in the states. I think their future cons out here will only get better. Sean said at the end of the convention that they plan to hold another convention in LA next October. So, if you missed out this time around, sign up early for the next one!

Tidbits from Starfury LA (with some minor BSG spoilers):

Christina Hendricks didn’t know what show she was auditioning for when she read the lines, and in the middle of it asked “Am I in Space?”

Yan and his brother auditioned for their parts which required a cockney accent.  Theirs wasn’t great but Joss said it was good enough.

Ron auditioned for his part.  He wasn’t a fan of sci-fi at that point but loved the script and the writers.  He especially liked Book’s character.

Ron loved his costumes, especially his socks which were very comfortable.

Christina loved her costumes especially her last outfit with leather.

Christina noted the chemistry between the characters was something she loved about the show.

Yan’s outfits were way too tight at first.  Jewel didn’t like that she had to wear a jumpsuit all the time.

Yan and Rafael did not fight over who would play who in Serenity.  They take turns on their parts.  But some lines were cut and Wrath had a couple of extra lines in the end.

Joss never told Ron what Book’s background was.  Ron liked that as it offered him more creativity.  Nathan called Joss on the phone during the convention (or pretended to call Joss maybe?) and said that Joss told him that Book use to be a high level alliance cop gone bad.   Ron at the end of the con said Nathan was one of the biggest liars.

Mark Sheppard said that Ron Moore has told at least one person on the cast that they are the fifth cylon when in fact they actually are not.  Ron will lie about anything!  Filming fake scenes is not out of the question.

Lance the cat is going to make his return in season four of Battlestar Galactica.

Jewel and Morena played a game where they would both simulate ways of killing themselves on the set.

If they could swap characters:  Jewel would want to play Morena.  Morena might like to be Juble.

Jewel said her favorite episode was Objects in Space.  Morena liked Out of Gas.

When asked what question they didn’t like the most, Jewel said she was tired of answering if there were going to be any more firefly episodes.

Joss referred to Morena and Jewel as “two angry crabs” on the set.

The desserts on the Firefly set were really good!

One of the guests in the audience talked about introducing Serenity to Tibetan nuns.

One of the most surprising places Morena was recognized at was at Penn Station by a fan.  The fan asked her to sign his metro card.

Mark says that the upcoming movie Razor is excellent and as good as the episode 33 on Battlestar Galactica.

Adam’s favorite roles include his characters on Firefly and Full Metal Jacket.

Adam thought it might put Mark at ease to tell him that Joss wrote the character Badger for himself!

Adam believes Jayne is a good guy, and the role gave him the chance to explore his “inner idiot”!  It was fun playing a dumb guy.

The Romo Lampkin character acts as Joseph Adama’s true son (his protoge), as his biological son William decided to enter the military.  This relationship becomes a point in season four.
